B-COS We Care about school success…….

Our organization offers hearing screening appointments to local preschools for children aged 31/2 to 5 years of age.  B-COS We Care-trained volunteers screen children for hearing loss.  We want children to be ready to learn on their first day of school. Hearing disabilities interfere with language acquisition, which later interferes with school success..  We are the only group in town that freely offers this service to preschools; hearing screening isn't normally offered in pediatric wellness checks. 

Children are taught to respond to auditory signals.  Those children who can’t respond are given information for further evaluation by an audiologist. The earlier children are referred the better for their social/speech and language development, resulting in school success.  Our organization owns 5 audiometers that are professionally calibrated before our screening cycle each year.

Screenings are scheduled with preschools in the Fall.  In 2024, 16 preschools participated with 441 children screened.
